Today is an American morning show that NBC put on the air on 14 January 1952, and it was the first program of its kind anywhere in the world. It started as a two-hour weekday broadcast, then gradually stretched into weekends and a much longer slot. For years no rival network came close to it, until another network's morning show finally passed it in the ratings during the late 1980s.
