Ashes to Ashes first aired on BBC One on 7 February 2008, and it picks up the world of Life On Mars. A detective named Alex Drake is shot in 2008 and wakes up in 1981. She soon runs into Gene Hunt, the same rough-edged DCI from the earlier show. It mixes crime drama with a touch of science fiction.
